In the past, when we deployed SAP environments, we first had to work out a detailed sizing and architecture and pass it on to the procurement team, which then ordered the systems and installed them in the data center. From there, it went on to the network team, the storage team, the operating system team, and the database team. So it was not uncommon for three to six months to pass between the architecture design and the installation of a new SAP system.

In practice, it is quite possible that the target specifications defined in the security concept do not match the current actual status. Therefore, especially with regard to SAP security, it must always be checked whether the necessary SAP basic settings also correspond to the minimum level. Although a manual check is possible, it is very time-consuming because the necessary regularizations have to be read, interpreted and technically implemented. The Security Architect - part of the Xiting Authorizations Management Suite (XAMS) software solution developed by Xiting - offers you the possibility to precisely examine the current status of the SAP Basis settings with the help of the integrated check mode, whereby it is also possible to check several systems via RFC, starting from a central system. The scope of the check of system settings and system security includes not only the SAP Basis settings presented here, but also other SAP Basis settings. The scope of the check mode can be extended by self-defined check IDs.

To configure the SAL, please use transaction RSAU_CONFIG (formerly SM19) as of SAP Release 7.50. It is recommended to activate the cross-user logging with minimum settings and to record all audit classes for users with extensive authorizations, such as SAP standard and emergency users. These settings should always be configured on a cross-client basis.

The decision to outsource a task or service should be taken not only in terms of cost, but also by assessing the competitive differentiation and strategic importance. Characteristics for describing the costs are the specificity of the task and the embossing by unit cost degression, i.e. decreasing costs with increasing number of tasks or performance. Of strategic importance are, in particular, those tasks and services which are difficult to imitate by competing companies. Figure 4 compares the strategic importance and cost advantages in order to arrive at fundamentally valid statements regarding the usefulness of outsourcing for certain IT tasks and services. In addition to this, as already discussed by Recommendation [A2], it is then worthwhile to establish a catalogue of criteria for evaluating and looking in detail at certain characteristics of the application or services. An exemplary catalogue of criteria can be found in chapter 9.6 of the Master thesis. Figure 4: IT Outsourcing Decision Matrix THE DECISION TO OUTSOURCE A TASK OR PERFORMANCE SHOULD BE MADE NOT ONLY IN TERMS OF COSTS BUT ALSO BY ASSESSING COMPETITION DIFFERENTIATION AND STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE.

"Shortcut for SAP Systems" is a PC application that simplifies or even facilitates many activities in the SAP base.
