SAP HANA base administrators can master the database in a way that wasn't possible back then. The SAP database is much more self-healing. Errors do less damage, are easier to detect and fix, and are less likely to impact system performance and availability before they are fixed. Good written and spoken German skills are expected (level similar to at least B2). Regular further training will help you to develop your personal skills in a targeted manner.

Basis comprises a number of middleware programs and tools from SAP. Basis is responsible for the smooth operation of the SAP Basis system and thus for R/3 and SAP ERP, for example.
