Task & functionality of the SAP authorization concept
Detect critical base permissions that should not be in application roles
The SAP authorization concept protects transactions and programs in SAP systems on the basis of authorization objects. Authorization objects enable complex checks of an authorization that are bound to several conditions. Authorizations represent characteristics of authorization objects depending on the employee's activity and responsibility. The authorizations are combined in an authorization profile that belongs to a role. The administrator assigns the appropriate role to the employee via the user master record so that the employee can perform his or her tasks in the system.

A user reports that he or she is receiving a permission error even though you have granted him or her the required permissions. This could be due to a faulty buffering of the permission data. Although a user has been assigned a role with the correct permission data, this user is presented with a permission error due to missing permissions. This may be surprising at first glance, but it can almost always be fixed by a short analysis.
How to analyze roles and authorizations in the SAP system
Another special feature of the role menu is the maintenance of object-based navigation. If a call to a transaction has been executed through a button in a Web Dynpro application, you must make the Object-based Navigation settings for the transaction to call. To do this, select the appropriate item in the (F4) Help. You may need to ask the developer of the application for navigation information.

To access business objects or execute SAP transactions, a user requires appropriate authorizations, since business objects or transactions are protected by authorization objects. The authorizations represent instances of the generic authorization objects and are defined according to the employee's activities and responsibilities. The authorizations are combined in an authorization profile that belongs to a role. User administrators then assign the appropriate roles to the employee via the user master record so that the employee can use the respective transactions for his or her tasks in the company.

For the assignment of existing roles, regular authorization workflows require a certain minimum of turnaround time, and not every approver is available at every go-live. With "Shortcut for SAP systems" you have options to assign urgently needed authorizations anyway and to additionally secure your go-live.

Transport Recording for Modified Roles: Allows you to have the changed roles written to a transport order.

With apm Suite, you can put together your individual GRC/SOX-compliant solution for SAP authorizations as needed.
